Exercise stress testing

Exercise stress testing is used to assess how the heart functions under stress. In the past, it was most commonly used to diagnose blocked arteries to the heart but is now more likely to be used to assess exercise capacity and the effect of exercise on rhythm disturbances of the heart.

Testing consists of walking on a treadmill while connected to an ECG machine. The treadmill will gradually tilt so you feel like you are walking up a small hill and will also gradually increase in speed to make you walk faster. Throughout the test Dr Sammel and/or his nurse will be present and your pulse, blood pressure and ECG will be monitored.
